Advocacy training

The NYS Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC), along with the New York Alliance for Inclusion & Innovation and The Arc New York is pleased to announce a free advocacy training opportunity this September.

Participants will hear from several speakers on a variety of topics, and be provided with interactive activities to practice advocacy skills in small groups. The goal is for participants to improve their advocacy skills and gain confidence to better advocate for themselves or on behalf of a family member.

The topics to be covered include:

  • Public speaking and how to tell your story
  • Finding the right type of advocacy
  • Disability issues and making systemic change
  • Advocating with all types of decisionmakers
  • Tips for an effective meeting

Date: Sept. 21, 2023

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Holiday Inn Express, 16 Wolf Rd., Albany

The deadline for applications is June 30. Participants will be reimbursed for the cost of travel if they live more than 35 miles from the Holiday Inn Express.
