School suspension

This free virtual Family Forum from Westchester Institute for Human Development (WIHD) is being led by the New York Civil Liberties Union.

Suspensions are scary, challenging for the child and their families, and often uncalled for. Some parents have experienced being asked to pick up their child in the middle of the school day because of a behavior, a child being accused of “insubordination” or “defying authority” by school staff and more.

This workshop can help. It will review your child’s rights in the suspension process and explore effective alternatives to punitive discipline. Parents will be equipped with the knowledge to advocate for their children when faced with a suspension.
